Nourishing your body through cancer and beyond.
Stacy Roberts-Davis, RD, LDN is a South Florida registered dietitian with over 18 years of experience and culinary training. Through virtual sessions, she helps people before, during and after cancer treatment, and the caregivers who cook for them, stop fearing food, manage side effects and enjoy mealtime again.
A cancer (oncology) dietitian is a registered dietitian who helps people eat well during and after cancer treatment, for example by planning meals around side effects such as nausea, appetite loss and taste changes, and by helping prevent unintended weight and muscle loss. In Florida, dietitians and nutritionists must be licensed by the state as a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LD/N). A dietitian’s role is to support, not replace, your oncology care team.

Stacy’s approach centers on her motto, “Eat Real Food.” She uses hands-on cooking skills to turn nutrition guidance into simple meals you’ll actually want to eat.

Cancer and cancer treatment place extra demands on your body. Good nutrition, along with physical activity your care team approves, can help you cope better.

Aim to maintain muscle strength and a healthy weight and to have more energy, all of which can improve your quality of life.

A cancer diagnosis can affect emotional health, including your relationship with food. It’s important to recognize these changes and get help when needed.
Federal cancer researchers describe nutrition as an important part of cancer care. Here’s what the evidence shows.
Studies report malnutrition in roughly 30% to 85% of people with cancer, depending on cancer type and stage.
Malnutrition is linked to more treatment side effects and lower quality of life, which is why nutrition support is part of cancer care.
Guidelines recommend referral to a registered dietitian for people with nutrition-related symptoms or malnutrition, and earlier support is better.

Treatment in Florida comes with a few local considerations, such as summer heat, hurricane season and long drives to appointments. Talk with your care team about how these affect your eating plan.
Florida also grows a wide variety of fresh produce. Ask your dietitian how seasonal favorites can fit into meals that match your treatment needs.

Look for a Registered Dietitian (RD or RDN). In Florida, also confirm a state license as a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist. You can verify any license on the Florida Department of Health website.
Ask how much of their practice involves people with cancer and caregivers, and which side effects they commonly help with.
A good dietitian complements your oncologist’s plan and encourages you to talk with your team before you change your diet or start supplements.
Food lists aren’t enough. Look for meal ideas, recipes and cooking support that fit your energy, budget and taste on treatment days.
